Welcome!

Welcome to Jase's Athenaeum!!

Hi everyone! Welcome to my new blog. Well, actually it's my first. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. I've never considered doing anything like this before. You're probably wondering why I decided to do this then? The answer is why not. I know it's not a great answer, but it is true. One of my great loves happens to be books. And this would be a fantastic way to get out there and talk about it. To talk about the books I've read and plan to read. But I want this to be about more than just sharing my love of books. I want to be able to learn about them. About the authors who have created them. And to share a bit of what I have written as well. (Hopefully not frightening people at the same time.)

So you're thinking, "Oh great! Just what we need. Another book blog." That's not exactly true. I want this to be more than just a book blog. As the name suggests, I want this to be a place for learning. And that includes other interests of mine. My love of music among them. I see this as being a place for people to get together and talk. To learn from each other. So this means that while my primary focus will be on books, there will be other topics occasionally brought up.

This brings me to the name. Athenaeum.
It's origin is: Latin Athenaeum, a school in ancient Rome for the study of arts, from Greek Athēnaion, a temple of Athena, from Athēnē.
And it is defined as: n
1. (Education) an institution for the promotion of learning
2. (Education) a building containing a reading room or library, esp one used by such an institution.
I have my dear friend Timmy to thank for the name. When I was trying to figure out what to call this blog, he came up with the perfect name! So thank you, Timmy!! I really appreciate your help!

We've talked a bit about what I want this blog to be and now I want to talk about what I don't want this blog to be. As is the case any time people get together and have a discussion, there will be disagreements. I don't want any fighting, name calling, or insults. I don't want people to feel threatened or attacked for their thoughts.  This is to be a safe, positive place. Disagreements are fine, but let's please be respectful towards each other.

Thank you for taking the time to visit! I hope we can all have fun learning together. And again, Welcome to Jase's Athenaeum!!

  5. A quote for your new blog:
Be brave enough to live creatively. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can only get there by hard work, by risking and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you will discover will be wonderful: Yourself.

  7. Let your light shine in this new endeavour: "May the blessing of light be upon you, Light on the outside, Light on the inside" (from an Irish blessing) and this blog be a place "that welcomes friends and strangers alike." Sounds like this will be an interesting place to be. Looking forward to visiting often.
